Travel Driver License

  • Has a gold star in the corner
  • Valid for eight years in most cases
  • Accepted at airport security checkpoints and federal facilities

Effective October 1, 2020, only the Arizona Travel ID and Arizona Travel Driver License, a U.S. passport, and other federally approved identification will be accepted at TSA airport security checkpoints for domestic travel.

Non-Travel Driver License
Non-Travel Driver Licenses do not comply with federal identification requirements and cannot be used at TSA airport security checkpoints starting October 1, 2020.
The non-travel license says NOT FOR FEDERAL IDENTIFICATION across the front.
Plan Ahead and Save Time

Replace your driver License
If necessary, update your address before you apply for the credential. Allow up to 15 days to receive it in the mail at the address listed on your application. A temporary credential receipt with photo will be issued at the office.

Replace your license or identification if:

  • Your license or ID is lost, stolen, destroyed or damaged.
  • Your address has changed.
  • You wish to convert a graduated license to an Under 21 driver license (anytime on or after your birthday).
  • You wish to convert an Under 21 license to a regular driver license (anytime on or after your birthday).
  • Your name has changed.
  • You wish to remove your Social Security number from your license.
  • You wish to update your photo.

Renew Your Driver License

You may renew your driver license up to six months before the expiration date of your current license.
You will submit your current driver license as your primary identification document, and you will need a secondary form of identification for a standard driver license renewal.
After completing the renewal process, you will receive a temporary license valid for 30 days. Your permanent license will be mailed to the address you provide. Please make sure the address is correct.

Consider a Travel ID When You Renew
Effective October 2020, the standard Arizona Driver License will no longer be accepted to pass through airport security to board commercial aircraft as well as access restricted areas in federal facilities, nuclear power plants and military facilities. The REAL ID compliant Travel ID will be accepted.

Identification Cards for Children
ADOT recommends that all children have an Arizona ID Card.

  • An Arizona ID card with a photo enables law enforcement agencies to distribute your child's information and photograph in the event of an AMBER Alert (child abduction alert bulletin) more rapidly.
  • An Arizona ID card can help protect your child against identity theft.
  • Having an Arizona ID card can make it easier for your child to travel and enroll in school or activities.
