Motorcycle Insurance

A lot of people love motorcycles and they love driving them. So, no matter if you do like to drive your motorcycle occasionally on weekends or if you drive it every day to go to work, you need to make sure that you buy motorcycle insurance.

Just like it happens with car or auto insurance, motorcycle insurance will protect not only yourself but your passengers and your investments as well. So, you need to make sure that you use a motorcycle insurance company that you trust and that has good prices. Stop by and get a free quote at RL Jones Insurance and MVS. Motorcycle Insurance Requirements

Even before you visit an insurance agency to buy motorcycle insurance, you need to understand that there are some requirements in what concerns this type of insurance.

One of the things that you need to know is that most states require you, as the motorcycle owner, to buy liability insurance. As you probably already know, this kind of coverage pays out for others’ injuries or damages if you cause an accident. In addition, it is important to keep in mind that the lowest amount of liability insurance you must buy for your motorcycle is the same as your state’s car insurance minimum requirements. In Arizona's case:

$15,000 bodily injury liability per person
$30,000 bodily injury liability per accident
$10,000 property damage liability per accident

While you may opt for these minimums, you should consider going a bit beyond these numbers especially in case you’re sued over an accident.

Some states also consider mandatory drivers to carry uninsured/underinsured motorist coverage. This is the kind of coverage that pays out for injuries resulting from an accident caused by a driver who’s uninsured or who doesn’t have enough insurance. This coverage may include property damage. However, a motorcycle insurance company may ask you to buy it separately.

Motorcycle Insurance Coverage Options

As you are about to see, the coverage options that you have for motorcycle insurance are very similar to the ones that you get on auto insurance.

#1: Collision:
This coverage pays out for damage to your motorcycle minus your deductible amount.

#2: Comprehensive:
This coverage pays out if your motorcycle is stolen or damaged by something other than a collision with another vehicle.

#3: Medical Payments (Med Pay):
Notice that this is a type of coverage that is only available in some states.

This kind of coverage pays for medical bills if you and your passenger are injured in an accident. Notice that it doesn’t cover lost wages and other costs.

#4: Personal Injury Protection:
This kind of coverage usually pays out the medical bills of injuries you, your passenger or pedestrians suffer in an accident regardless of who’s at fault. Notice that rules vary from state to state.

#5: Roadside Assistance:
This kind of coverage includes labor and towing at the site of your bike’s breakdown.
